A “wellness program” should be more than a weight loss program at the local health club. “Wellness” can be about living a healthy and balanced life that has purpose and time for play. As boomers age, and the X generation finds they want to tune up their bodies and emotional lives in mid-life, wellness becomes even more important. Forward-thinking corporations are now paying employees to participate in “wellness” programs, as changes in lifestyle and happiness can lead to lower rates of illness and obesity, and thus lower insurance costs. You may have had the experience of making a positive life change, then regressing back into your old routine. Wellness changes can work! The path that has a proven track record is to use a global approach that integrates your personality, schedule, and desires. Wellness changes have to be about what will help you thrive, not what you “should” do. Jeanne is a certified “Circle of Life” coach. This proven approach looks at current satisfaction with wellness in 12 life areas, but centers on self-care. These 12 areas include nutrition, exercise, stress mastery, relationships, finances, work, play, health care, environment, life purpose, spirituality, and self-esteem. The client sets goals in the areas he or she wants to improve, and individual or group coaching supports the changes over a period of two or three months until they are sustainable.
